After beating Volcan Club de Moroni of Comoros in the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round, Uganda’s Vipers F.C will meet South Africa’s Platinum Stars in the next round.
Vipers drew 0-0 with Volcan in Kampala two weeks ago, but their 1-1 stalemate away in Comoros on Saturday ensured their qualification on the away goals rule.
Kamal Djabir put the home side ahead after 15 minutes but Vipers staged a brave fight and they equalized through midfielder Deus Bukenya’s free-kick 14 minutes later.
Platinum will provide Vipers with a sterner test than Volcan, and there is not much time for them to reload their venom glands.
With the first leg to come in Kampala between March 10th and 12th, the preparatory work for Coach Richard Wasswa and his team starts now.
The second leg will be played in South Africa between March 17th and 19th.
Platinum will be a harder nut to crack thou, and the South Africans ensured their own qualification with a 2-0 aggregate win over Uniao do Songo of Mozambique.
However, Vipers won’t be thinking much about next month’s double header with Platinum as they turn their attention back to the local league.
The Venoms visit Express FC at Wankulukuku this Friday in a highly-anticipated Azam Uganda Premier League encounter.
