The Buhaguzi County MP Daniel Muheirwe has called for the immediate arrest of loggers who are illegally exploiting Bugoma central forest reserve in Hoima district.

The legislator also wants all lorries used in transporting timber from the forest reserve impounded.

He said there should be increased patrols and check-points established at all entry and exit points in the forest.

Residents of Kabwoya and Kyangwali sub counties have always accused police of aiding loggers since they have never arrested any of them.

Deforestation in Uganda has increased in the past few years jeopardizing the country’s battle against global warming.
