Kaberamaido Police have rescued two children, a year after their alleged kidnap.

Eight-year-old Sharif Kanyike and his four-year-old sister Amina Nansubuga were rescued early this week from a private house in Kaberamaido town.

The owners of the house Margaret Itage and Catherine Imede are being held at Kaberamaido Central Police Station.

Police have preferred charges of child rights abuse, kidnap and abduction against the suspects and commenced a search for the minors’ parents.

The OC Child and Family Protection Unit at Kaberamaido Central Police Station Christine Rose Shakina said the children were kidnapped from Kamuli district last year.

She added that Itage had told Police that the children were dropped at her home by her sister Imede, about a year ago claiming to have adopted them from an orphanage.

The children identify their father as Abdullah Kizito, a resident of Kamuli district.
