Alarm raised by parliament about derogatory language used on one of the local television channels in describing the legislators has drawn in investigations by Uganda Communication Commission (UCC).
The investigation is to ascertain if there was breach of the minimum broadcasting standards.
It is alleged that while appearing on a talk show recently, a renowned controversial academician labeled Members of Parliament as “prostitutes.”
The breach of the broadcasting standards does not hold persons hosted responsible for the statements but rather the broadcasters.
Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze has confirmed to parliament about the ongoing investigations by the regulator.
The minister has cautioned media houses to refrain from usage of derogatory and abusive language while maintaining government disinterest to close down the media.
