The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) land forces commander Maj. Gen Peter Elwelu has visited UPDF troops in Somalia under AMISOM.
Maj. Gen Peter Elwelu, who was received by the Ugandan contingent commander Brig. Kayanja Muhanga, called on the troops to maintain a good image of Uganda and keep discipline.
He also advised the soldiers who wish to retire to apply adding that their applications will be considered as opposed to desertion now that the retirement package has improved.
The commander also met the president of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mahamed Abdullahi Farmaajo at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu city.
He is also scheduled to visit forward bases in Sector One where the Uganda troops are and these include Baidogoole, Maryan Gubaay and Barawe.
This is his first visit to Somalia as the Commander Land Forces.
He is in Somalia to check on the operational tempo, boost the morale of the troops and also update the troops on the situation in Uganda.
