The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has warned that telecom companies found selling unregistered sim cards face heavy penalties.
The Executive Director of UCC Eng. Godfrey Mutabaazi said the penalties include a heavy cut on their revenues and suspension of their licenses.
UCC last week barred the sale of unregistered sim cards on the streets noting that such unregistered sim-cards are being used by criminals.
Mutabaazi also asked the public to cooperate with the commission in fighting the sale and use of unregistered sim cards.
He said they have received numerous complaints from the public in that regard adding that it is the more reason why these cards must be eliminated.
