Gov’t Dismisses Plans for Museveni – Besigye Dialogue

By Alex Wandeba

Government has dismissed reports of a scheduled dialogue between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Opposition Leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Addressing the media today, the Executive Director of Uganda Media Centre Ofwono Opondo challenged Dr. Besigye to name anybody who has approached him for any possible dialogue with President Museveni.

This comes after one of the daily newspapers stated that President Yoweri Museveni is in possible talks with Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Dr. Besigye is quoted in today’s Daily Monitor saying that agreement between him the president has been reached to have an audit of the 2016 presidential election results.

Ofwono Opondo said such information is absurd and shows desperacy on the side of the opposition.

He described the opposition as a group of simply activists and critics adding that there is nothing totally personal between President Museveni and Dr. Besigye.

Ofwono pointed out that the only platform for dialogue is parliament in terms of political and policy as provided for by the constitution.

He also denied claims by Dr. Besigye that the economy is in a mess and part of the dialogue will focus on amnesty for Mr. Museveni after his leadership.
