Poisonous Cassava Kills Three Same Family Children

Three children from the same family have died and their parents are hospitalized after eating suspected poisonous cassava.

The deceased are eight-year-old Julius Ogema, six-year old Tabitha Wabwire and Maliko Namumanyi who is aged four years.

Their parents, Sunday Ogema and Maureen Ogema, both residents of Butema village in Buluguyi Sub county, Bugiri district, are admitted at Bugiri Hospital.

James Mubi, the East Busoga police spokersperson told UBC that two of the children died a few hours after supper on Friday, while the third died Sunday morning at Bugiri hospital where he had been rushed in critical condition.

Mubi notes that the preliminary investigations indicate that the family had consumed poisonous cassava.
