Court Upholds Ssekindi’s Election as Kalungu Woman MP

The Court of Appeal has upheld NRM’s Aisha Ssekindi’s victory as Woman MP for Kalungu district.

The court dismissed Aisha Waliggo’s election petition saying there was no sufficient evidence to prove that Ssekindi participated in election malpractices as alleged.

The ruling read by the court registrar, Ssanyu Nalukwago, also ordered Waliggo to pay three quarters of the costs incurred by her rival.

Following her defeat in the 2016 Kalungu woman parliamentary elections, Waliggo filed a petition challenging Ssekindi’s election.

She prayed that Court nullifies her election on grounds that she never had the academic qualifications required for the contest.

Her petition was however, dismissed by Masaka High Court Judge Michael Elubu.
